Interview with Alessandro Cangelosi

R|shaders, a 3ds max plug-in is fully developed by you or group of artists developed this plug-in? Please tell us about the special features of this plug-in which we can’t find out anywhere else?

R|shader born from my passion for shading and procedural computer graphics. It's what I dreamed Natural:shaders have to be and it has not been. I'm developing it, I need time because I'm working in production also, but I hope to finish it soon and to send the 1st betas to my registered users. The main features will be total control on every single detail of the shader, possibility to create complex and photorealistic surface with no texture, and so on. I love the possibility given from the complexity of the procedural function to simulate reality, so I decided to develop it to give part of my possibility to all the users wants it.

On your website it is mentioned that you are a Generalist too, please tell us about your generalism and how you get the time for that?

Generalism is the only way to work in Italy. Here it is impossible to be specialized only in any skill, like fluids, or rigging, or dynamic, or particles, etc etc. You have to be able to do everything, but I don't like it so much because there's the risk that you have poor skills in every task and you are not able to do complex job. So I decided to spend my personal free time to study and be skilled more on some specialization and still continue to be generalist, so I can say that I can do modeling job, but I'm not a digital sculptor. So my specializations are lighting, shading, rendering, particles, dynamic, volumetrics, fluids and scripting.

Do you have an aim or dream as an artist?  What are your hobbies and please describe your free time, if you have any?

In past I had some dreams as CGI artist. The 1st was being part of international big production, something like ILM, Digital Domain, etc. Then I had the dream to create a very good post production facility here in Italy....now I can say that my dream is to continue doing good job, continue to studying and trying to be everytime more skilled and professional, (I have to admit that the most important dream in my life is now reality, me and my wife). My hobbies are cinema and sport, I had no time for it in the last 3 years when I had rebelThink open, but now the life has become better for me, so I spend my spare time watching a lot of movies with my wife, or cooking with her, and I hope to re-start doing sport very soon.

Please tell us about the movies on which you worked as TD? Are you working on any projects currently?

Unfortunately I worked more on italian production, for example the movie with sea storm and water creature I talked about before. I worked as TD of my past company on music videos and commercials too, but the most interesting job period has begun from 2 months, when I decided to become a freelancer and I found some interesting international collaborations. I just finished to work on a commercial and some car modeling stuffs for two european jobs, and I'm waiting for the next one, as you can understand I can't say more about it, due to NDA, but I hope I'll can show something soon with my working partner.

As you already familiar about the CGArena.com, so can we ask what you like and dislike about this website, any suggestions!

I like CGArena.com, is one of my preferred site. Every morning, I arrive in front of my workstation, and before I can start working, I've the ritual check of news and CGI related website, and CGArena is one of it. I like it so much, if I have to say something, any suggestions, I can say only that I'd like to see some visual innovation, maybe an upgrade to the graphic interface...only this. But for the rest, I'll continue visiting it every day !

Thanks a lot Alessandro for taking out sometime for us from your busy schedule.

Thanks a lot for this interview; it will be a pleasure to be published on your website, and thanks to all the reader!
