Interview with Alessandro Baldasseroni

What you prefer to model – Male, Female or out of the world characters and do you do any preliminary drawing about the character before start the modeling?

It doesn`t really matter as long as the character has some kind of interesting features and is not cliche`. In my work I usually have plenty of references and concepts to help my work, so most of the times I don`t do any preliminary drawings. When it comes to personal works I usually do few preliminary sketches of the whole composition or of the character poses.

According to you what are the main elements which keep in mind while creating and developing the character?

When it comes to modeling, main proportions and basic features for sure. It`s pointless to add detail when something so fundamental has been done wrong, Same thing when it comes to shading and texturing. The overall color scheme and shader properties has to properly work and support the modeling, without suffocating it with useless detail. It`s a common mistake to think that adding detail indiscriminately helps to make something look "interesting", and this is true both for detail in modeling, than detail in texturing. Once we catch the intimate macro relationship between volumes and shapes and we get the basic properties of a shader, adding few calibrated details is just a formality, because the big work is done and we have a solid structure.

What are your hobbies and please describe your free time, if you have any?

My hobby and passion is my art and watching movies, but I don`t have much of  free time.

What other interests do you have that help influence your work and keep you motivated?

Cinema, for sure, I love watching movies , they always accompanied every time of my life, and I love to watch illustration, sculptures and artworks of every kind.

Anything you like to add? It is your chance now to state your opinion about anything!

I state, just in case it`s not clear enough, that the Italian cuisine is the best in the world.
