Q.
What other interests do you have that help influence your work and keep you motivated?
Again, film. Movie soundtracks help to inspire mood. I love to be inspired by entertainment as a goal rather than just corporate design which is very boring. I used to work for Games Workshop and knowing that my design was part of someone’s leisure time – reading fantasy art books etc. – was rewarding. When I worked at Games Workshop, I came into the office one day to be introduced to someone who had one of my designs tattooed on his arm! So any time I’m working for the sake of someone else’s entertainment I am motivated.

Do you have a dream project that you would like to work on?
Oh yes. I would give my sleep to have worked on any Harry Potter movie. Second to that would have been Lord of the Rings. So much conceptual, creative, magical artwork went into those movies which inspire and bring joy to so many millions of people.
Q.
Can you imagine a life without a graphic tablet?
It would be the end. Like telling Michelangelo he has to paint with his nose instead. Although he’d probably pull it off.

Follow your dream in life. Don’t just get an income as you’ll be stuck there wasting your life. The same thing applies to design/creative work that just pays the bills and isn’t really that creative. If your job saps your creativity or your client does – move on. You only live this life once, so make a difference.
