Interview with Arevshatov George
Hi could you tell us a bit about yourself?
My name is Arevshatov George. I was born and brought up in Tbilisi, Georgia. After school I finished the Technical University and then an art school. I have already been engaging in computer graphics for 5 years. At present, I work in the Moscow the "Cinepostproduction" studio.
In terms of CG, How did it all begin for you?
When I was young I went in for music and had a rock group of my own. We dreamed to be well-known and famous. But unfortunately, it is very difficult to be successful in music without good luck and many other things. When I was 25, I had to give up music to my great regret. I started a new profession. I was CG and I am not sorry about that at all. I took me long to master the new theme. And whithin a year I got my first job. Luckily, in CG, if a person can do the job - then he will have it, in contrast to music.
If you could invent your dream job, where would you work & what would be your job title?
I was greatly astonished by the quality of CG in such films as King-Kong, Lord of the rings, Star Wars, Matrix. I would like to take part in making the films of such high rank.
Of all of your artwork, which piece is your personal favorite and why?
I am not satisfied with all my works yet. It's possible to make each of them better. That's why the best and the most favourite is the one I am working on now.
Which area of 3d do your really enjoy doing?
I like texturing and shading very much. I think it is the most creative part of it.
What software program(s) do you use for your CG?
I use Autodesk Maya for modeling and uv mapping, Pixologic Zbrush for high poly organic modeling, Pixar renderman, Mental ray for rendering, shading, Adobe Photoshop, Corel draw for texturring. Adobe After Effects and DF for compositing.
What advice would you give to future wanna be animators out there?
Here I am not going to be original and I can say that in order to reach the aim you should work much at yourself. Some people get the results quickly, some not. It depends on the talent. But the one will get his aim by all means if he is carried away by his job and he works much at it.
What are your hobbies and daily routine?

CG is both a hobby and a job for me. So, when I have free time (which happens not very often) I make personal projects again. And I still play music. Sometimes I play the guitar with the amplifier and threaten the neighbours :-)
Are you working on any projects currently? If so, what are they?
Recently, the "Cinepostproduction" studio where i work as a texture artist and modeler finished the work on the feature film Day Watch (the sequel Night Watch). At that moment we are making CG for commercials which are on TV. But I prefer making feature films.
Thanks a lot George for taking out sometime for us from your busy schedule.
Thank you.
