Interview with Laurent M. Abecassis
Which area of 3d do your really enjoy doing, and which program(s) do you use for your CG and why?
The area I like the most is to solve problems ranging from specific character rigging issues to design complex production pipeline.
I’ve been using 3ds max since version 1, about 10 years ago. I really enjoy 3ds max for many reasons including its wide range of features, its complete customization in both user interface and features (trough third party plugins and MAXScript)
Are you working on any projects currently? If so, what are they?
Di-O-Matic just released Voice-O-Matic v2, the newest version of our award winning lip synchronisation plug-in for 3ds max. Featuring impressive phoneme recognition and work in many languages, it allow animators to create lip synch animations in matter of minutes by simply loading a wave file and define which Bezier tracks to be keyframed.
We are also working on some new innovative character animation plug-ins for 3ds max, to be released later on this year. Stay tuned for more information.
What are your hobbies and please describe your free time, if you have any?
I have to say that I’m lucky as my passion is what I do for a leaving : Computer Graphics.
Whenever I got enough free time I love to travel and visit foreign countries. I’ve also been quite lucky and gather to travel a lot for my work. Otherwise I really enjoy watching movies. Furthermore I have a huge collection of many character figurines, ranging from small hand painted collectors to life-size Disney characters.
How do you rate CGArena, and What advice would you give to aspiring CG artists?
CGArena is one of those resources that I’ve wish I had when I started working in the CG field.
I’ve been teaching CG for many years now and my biggest advice is “Don’t stop learning, always push your knowledge further.”
Thanks a lot Laurent for taking out sometime for us from your busy schedule.
Thank you, and keep up the cool site
