Sorry I have really no time to post updates these days :(
I have been working hard on the frog even if I have no time to do it (I have remodeled it from scratch) but it is still not finished... but I have learn to zbrush a little bit ;p
I hope I will be able to post something new Wednesday!

Texturing...

Postby k2k » 10 Jun 2006, 17:15

Finally I have some time to add updates...
I tried to find a workflow to age my objects and I began with the deckchairs.
As I render my image with finalRender, I have used fR-Dirt material with a ton of noise maps to drive all the parameters then I have rendered to textures to finally play a bit with Photoshop...

In fact fR-Dirt is quite cool but nevertheless in this model I have 4 uvw channels and 3 different noise maps to drive the parameters of fR-dirt and bumps to achieve this effect, so it is far from being automatic
I also have tried MR-ambient occlusion: it works quite well for an image but I wasn't able to render to texture a satisfactory map (in 3ds of course)

For vray I have read somewhere that chaos has some projects about releasing a dirt map so you have just to wait patiently

sunshinebetter, just for fun: you know fR is really faster than Vray (even if it can be longer to setup up) !!! 8)

It allready exist.. its called VrayDirt shader... but it its just for AO pass.. and it works very good in almost cases.. i dont use it.. but i know some ppl that use and its very good. But its far to be a dirty shader as fR and yes fR has a good SSS sistem... alot more faster than vray.. but i love vray :P

Frog Update

Postby k2k » 12 Jun 2006, 00:20

So here comes the frog...

As I mentioned in previous posts after modelling a frog with references coming only from my souvenirs I have remodelled my frog from scratch with some real references found on the net...

So the base model (3ds max) was exported to Zbrush to add some details to the mesh and to paint the textures (with a serious help of Photoshop)

I have rendered the frog using normal maps instead of displacement and bumps loosing some details... but my frog will be quite small in the final image and normal maps were really faster to render than the displacement maps...

My frog looks too “dry” (a frog is always wet?!) : this comes from the lack of a real environment that its skin could reflect…

Comments please!

Awesome frog man! Can't wait to see it in the final scene with the right reflections and all!

Christopher, I hope that it won't be a deception for you if the "final" frog will be 20*20 pixels in the final render...
Thank for your comments!

I know it was too much work for this image but the challanges are there to learn new things and I am glad to be able to use Zbrush now...
Moreover I think that the fastest way would be to model a frog in zbrush then import it already posed to 3ds, but I would like to reuse my frog later (maybe an animation?) so I had to rig it in 3ds.
And now I am very glad to have my rigged, skinned and detailed frog! :D
