Is it me or is the troll's left arm kinda big compared to the right arm? Or maybe trolls have lumpy different sized arms? I like the subject you picked. It tells a story even if the viewer doesn't know the history behind it.

A minor update, mirrored the canvas to see if anything is out of order. Going crazy cause can't make the stone texture as I see it in my head so moving on to the environment, or I'll be stuck with the troll forever. This is indeed good practice of multiple light-sources *_*

shreya-> yes, the story i referred to was really päivänsäde ja menninkäinen :) Nice that you recogniced it. Anekoneko-> ty for comment, I have watched the troll for so long that could not really notice the difference between arm lengths. Maybe the trolls have lumpy, different-sized arms, not an impossible idea, but going to look into that problem later.

Thank you all for comments and I'm glad the concept hasn't been fully alien. Can't wait to see everyone's final works!

The troll is really popping out of the page because of the way you are handling the light. You just need to start refining the other body parts such as the feet and hair.

A little progress, have been busy in school so haven't had much time for this :( Trying to catch up though. Made all the light sources as candles. Little progress on the environment. Hopefully focusing more on the troll tomorrow. Ty for comments, keeping them in mind :)

Well this is my final image, it was fun to make though it still has a lot of things I'd like to make better, but there always is. Final image is about 1500x3000px. And everything is made with Gimp 2.0. Ty for all c&c and it's been great to see everyone's way to make art. Next time I'll try some other techniques I've seen here. Cya and gl!

I just wanted to say that this was my favourite entry for this contest. ^_~ I wanted to join too, but it was too late. Hehe. ^_^ It's really amazing that you made that with Gimp! I love the concept, it's so unexpected! Anyone can think of evil monsters, but who would think dancing lights could be a nightmare? Hehehe. ^_^

I would like to have seen some of those mushroom that were initially present in your earlier work. I think they could really have helped make the background just that little bit more interesting. ^_~

Blessings,

~*Nina

I'm glad that you liked it Nina :) I think that Gimp is a very powerful tool, but the real reason I'm using it is that it's totally free. A very powerful aspect for a student :)

You are right about the mushroom and environment, got into a rush and never had the time to make everything the way i really wanted. And because I'm such a beginner in this area of art, it takes me a long time to complete even the simplest tasks.

Too bad you were too late to enter, see you next time though.

And thanks for everyone for comments, it was fun to join.
