Challenge: Christopher Snow: Canada

Postby warpv » 23 Nov 2006, 23:54

Hey guys! Ahah, cool, looks like I'm the first one to join the new challenge! I hope a lot more of you join soon, there were some great entries last challenge, and I hope you find the time to make something for this challenge aswell! Winter, a very nice theme, and again, it's very broad, so it leaves a lot of room for creativity. I can't wait to see what great ideas you will come up this time. As for me, I am still thinking...and will let you know as soon as I'm settled on one. Best of luck to eveyone!

Christopher! Nice to see you entered the challenge. I am organizing myself so I in fact am able to finish my submission this time, and brainstorming a bit.

Can't wait to see what you will surprise us all with!

Concept Sketch

Postby warpv » 28 Nov 2006, 03:50

Hey everyone, here is my concept for the Winter Challenge!

To me, winter = skiing. I've skied my whole life, and I'm actually a ski coach up here during winter. So I knew I wanted to do something related in some way to skiing. I also knew I would be very busy in the coming weeks and would not have a lot of time to work on my entry... So I deceided on this: I remembered those really early mornings when I had to wake up before dawn and head up to the ski hill to set up the course in preparation for a race that day. And just as I arrive at the hill, it's still freezing cold and the sun is just starting to rise. And I walk past the chairlift, which is not working yet at that hour, but I see one of the chairs that's stopped right in the loading area, and it's still all covered in snow and ice, and you see icycles hung from it. The air is stikingly cold and crisp and almost glowing as the sun reflets on the ice and snow on the chair.

It's that exact moment, light and atmosphere that I will try to capture in my picture.

All comments are as always welcomed! I will try to start with the modeling soon enough, as soon as I find more time! Until then!

I see it now. First I sort of saw a freezing bathtub. But then again, I don't live on a snow-covered-in-winter kind of place. Best of luck with the challenge.
