Challenge: Dave Chappell: UK

Postby davester78 » 29 Jan 2007, 13:37

Hi all,
Here's my concept for this challenge.
Set myself the challenge of aiming for a mood and lighting that isn't overly sinister.
I want it to be more about feeling for the person in the cupboard rather than the reason they are in there.

I wasn't really thinking along the Harry Potter lines. at all.
To clarify the concept, the chair in front of the cupboard door is firmly wedged under the handle, holding it closed. Who-ever is in the cupboard as been very much put there and held there.
My pic maybe doesn't explain properly the 'held as a punishment' feel I have in mind for the image but I'll try and can get this over in the actual image.

:) I spent abit of time sorting out the basic scene set-up and style so I can get a better idea of the details.
This is how I've started the image. I'll start modelin now.

well you have lot of time.. then you can add more details.. like making stylish chair, add carving/paintings in the house and other details possible to stand out your scene from others.

Cheers for comments all.
I got lots of work to do as everything you see are really placeholders. The chair, sofa & even walls need to be done to a proper standard.
I always try and get a 'solid' set-up mocked up at speed so I can see exactly whats working/not working.
Getting some lights in also helps avoid doing lots of work in bits that will be mostly in shadow :D

I thought I'd post this quick pic.
It isn't really an update - just an interesting example of how textures containing specular can help shape your lighting set-up.
Here is the same lighting as my previous post but with some unworked textures quickly box mapped.

ok - must stop playing and do some serious modelin!

Welcome to the challenge dave! Your concept is cool, I really like your sketch! And I see you're off too a nice start on the 3D aswell. It's fun and interesting to see how we all have different methods of working and starting our projects. Best of luck with the challenge and do keep us updated!

This is looking really nice.I know its wip,but dirty it up abit.
I also think a bit of bounce light around the door would look good.
Nice.
