hehe. exactly:) Bobby is a great character, i always asked myself how Patrick Beaulieu did it?All the fascinating lighting and materials. My creature obviously won't be as good as his. It's my second fully textured and skinned character i ever made (first is my avatar:) so i still have to learn, but what is the best way to learn art? Copy art masters :) hehe. Since I can't create the same model, i want to recreate at lest the style of Patrick's works (with a little bit of my own ideas of course:)

i'm experimenting with lights - i have about 8 lights in the scene i posted, but i guess there will be a bit more, to emphasize particular parts of the character (and a background which is yet to be done) using includes, excludes, light blockers and so on.

jokes aside, the two eyes seem to be different colours. if its intentional(to make the character quirky) i guess its ok. However if its just happening because the light is hitting the two eyes differently, then you have a bit of a problem to fix. coz usually both eyes pick up the same amount of light, and hence usually look identical in colour and reflections..

I think it's the light hitting them differently. I think it's one of those wonderful mistakes that ends up making it look better. You may even want to take it abit further and change one of the hues abit. I'd make the dimmer eye a very slight red alburn :p thats just me.

Thank you for your comments. Eyes have indeed slightly different colours, and different pupil and cornea sizes as well. But even if they were the same , they would look different, the light hits them differently as there are multiple lights from every side, with different colours. And generally it's not something that can't be easily fixed.

cheers

Nice Work

Postby artistsusan » 09 Aug 2008, 03:03

I love the shiny texture of the skin. He looks like the lovechild of Jabba the Hut and Mr. Peanut at a disco. Poor Mr. Peanut, he's too good for that relationship. Somebody should tell him that he can do better. Jabba has really let himself go, plus Mr. Peanut is kinda classy in the monacle...

Anyway, joking aside, your work is really cool.

Sportguy:P I'm starting to be afraid of you:P I think i'll keep the lighting - i will probably move those colour lights a bit, but generally it will stay as it is. The render size is probably going to be 16:10 not 3:1 - since this sample is just a cropped part of a whole image.
