Challenge: Juan Manuel Bautista Hoepfner: Mexico

Postby juanmanuel » 04 Aug 2006, 23:59

After seeing so much talent going on in the challenge, I just knew I had to be a part of it. So here I am, participating!

My concept sketch illustrates (or rather, my feeble attempt at illustrating) a mayan pyramid in the middle of the jungle. The mist is creeping in, but everything is quiet. Dead quiet. For this is a haunted pyramid!!!! Muahahahahahaha!

Ok, I will try to make this look like an ancient haunted pyramid scene.

PS I tried to do a nicer sketch this time around...

I love the sketch! ;) And the idea looks very cool too! Just be sure to make it very creepy and haunted! Best of luck with this challenge! Hope you have time to finish this time! :)

Thank you Paco, Christopher.

I do hope I can finish it this time around. I am much faster doing architecture stuff opposed to humans, so I hope I will have enough time

Hi there. Sorry I have not updated this week, but it has been really tough on me (as in real life). I hope I will able to update quite soon

Hi everybody, finally, a tiny update, but an update nevertheless. I have started building the pyramid, I think the laborious part will be doing the staircases correctly, and the gargantuan task of bevelling all the straight edges...

The pyramid modelling is almost done. Well, the "new look" type of modelling, anyway...
The top and bottom steps.
Then, achieve the old and creepy look, uvmapping, texturing, ambientation...arrrrgh... still lots to do!

As a matter of fact, the pyramid I am loosely inspiring on, the Temple I or the Temple of the Jaguars in Tikal, Guatemala, does not have a burial chamber. But yes, my intention (as I think it was of the mayans) is to highlight that chamber. The negative space of the pyramid is just so important, I am glad it is showing.

Here is another quicky update.
