In 3dsMax, go to Create/Systems/Daylight System
Drag in viewport and it will create a compass and a daylight system.
It will ask you to use mr Photographic Exposure Control (before this you must change the renderer to Mental Ray).
Now, if you go to modify panel, under Daylight Parameters you have Sunlight and Skylight.
You must change both to mr Sun and mr Sky respectively. When you change the Skylight to mr Sky,
it will ask you to create a mr Physical Sky environment map.
Of course you choose Yes, and you will do that at the first question, too (the one with the exposure).
Go to Rendering/Environment/mr Photographic Exposure Control
Select Photographic Exposure
From Presets, select Physically Based Lighting, Outdoor Daylight, Clear Sky
Change the Shutter Speed to something between 300 to 400.
If you change the position of the sun, the color of the sun and skylight will change accordingly,
so try to find the mood that you are looking for.
Good luck.
