mmmm paint doesn't peel that way, and the floor texture doesn't look very chinese. I have a book with some floor patterns used in chinese architecture, I'll look for it, scan a few and upload them here if you like. Giving credit to the authors etc, of course!
But not right now, I am almost falling asleep....

Yeah, I have to play around with that paint still...but funnyly enough, I did use a paint peeling texture as a base for that wall texture. And the ground, well, I would appreciate it if you could maybe upload a few floor paterns that I could look at. I didn't find much myself... Thx!

Here they are! They come from the following book:

Historic Chinese Architecture
Compiled by the Department of Architecture,
Qinghua University

Quinghua University Press
Qinghuauyuan, Beijing

First Edition, 1985.

It is really strange, it has absolutely no copyright notice, but I suppose it should be assumed it enters the famous "fair use" thingy.

I also upload a picture from the book which shows a floor and an ageing paint, two things in one!

looking good, like some of these floor textures juanmanual posted, you should try out some of them.

also a small tip: you may want to start putting some dummy objects in place of the flowerpots and plants so you know where the shadows are going to be, and how they effect the wall and floor textures

Hey guys!

chaitanyak - thanks for the tip, I will try putting some simple goemetry in to test the shadows on the wall.
paco - yeah, I had been thinking of making the angle a little wider for a while, but the camera angle isn't final, I will play with it a little later on, it's like that know so when I do my test renders I have a good idea of the overall scene.
faceoff - yeah, well I thought of my concept without knowing very much in which category it fell, as I was not a great connaiseur of japenese and chinese gardens...and after doing a bit of research, I found that I had ideas that came from both...so I decided to create by own type of garden and just have fun with it and go ahead and create in it the elements that I wanted instead of trying to stay strickly with just one type.

So yeah, I went to the library on Friday to get some books for references and funny conincidence, I found the exact same book there from which juan scanned his photos! And I also found a couple other great books of both chinese and japanese gardens. Then yesterday I went out with my trusty digital camera up to the forest and got lots of great shots that I could use for textures. So with all that in hand, I will work a bit on my picture, and hopefully have another update for you guys soon!
