Q1.  When our system crash due to power failure, virus attack or many other computer problems, and when we try to run the max it shows max encountered an error in verification of your authorization ID and asking the authorization ID again, but after providing (if you are registered user) it doesn’t take it or some other error, then what to do?

Ans. This big problem is very easy to solve. Go to > Windows Explorer > Tools > Folder Options > View Tab. And select the “Show Hidden Files and Folders” option box.

After this just go to the C:\Documents & Settings\ All Users\ Application Data\ Macrovision\ Safecast \ Product Licenses and delete if there is any file out there. Voila!!! Now you’re max running fine as always.

Q2. When you run the max it hangs or non-responding when it loading “mentalray.dlz”. And when you delete the file from “StdPlugs” directory, it works fine but this is not the solution if you want to use the mental ray. Because its not loading in renderer.

Ans. Just disable the firewall in your system or open ports 7000 - 7025 I think (I believe it really only needs port 7000, and Max needs a few) should allow MR to use the internal ports to do control checking on the system. But what to do when no firewall is installed in the system and mental ray hangs like in my system. May be some other software like spyware remover close some ports. In such a case I installed the demo version of Port Explorer (http://www.diamondcs.com.au/portexplorer) in my system and without doing anything in the software my max loading with mental ray infact after the demo expires. Looks strange but works.



Q3. When you run the max then everything in the viewport is “overburn” but in rendering everything is fine.

Ans. Just make sure that Ambient Color in the Environments and Effects Dialog (pressing 8) is Black.

Q4. Many of you tried “Email Notifications” in the Render Scene dialog but don’t get a mail in your inbox.

Ans. This is very cool feature, if your system is always connected to the Internet and you want to go on date with your girlfriend. Make sure your girlfriend not mind when u get instant notification on your mobile (if you registered for this service from your email service provider). But not so easy if you don’t know the SMTP server address.

Q5. If you are rendering a scene with raytrace material and rendering stops again and again after rendering few frames without any error or sometimes any warning.

Ans.  Go to Start>Control Panel>System>Advanced Tab>Environment Variables. Then click on Edit for the TEMP and TMP and change the directory to C:/Temp on BOTH. If that already is the directory then make a new folder somewhere and change to that. Then restart your computer, if the problem not solved then run any good cache and temp file cleaner. Hope your problem will be solved, because mine already solved.

Q6. If you are using “Ctrl + I” to invert your selection but suddenly it stops working, then what can be the problem?

Ans. When Keyboard Shortcut Override Toggle button is pressed in the Extras Toolbar then this and many Shortcuts will not work.

Q7. If your max crashes without saving the file then there is any option of recovering that unsaved file?

Ans. The answer is Yes, If your max crashes without saving the file go in your max installed directory > Autobackup and if you are lucky, max already save your some or full work in autobackup files. You can also set settings in the Customize > Prefrences > Files. Mention number of files and backup interval time.

Q8. If you change your mind and want to undo your moves but your undo finish before you reach your desire shape?

Ans. Go Customize > Preferences… > General and increase the Levels of Scene Undo.

Q9. If you want to use the “Create” poly button in the Edit Geometry but your points are not snapping even you enable the snap button.

Ans. Make sure Polygon mode (pressing 4) is selected when using create poly. Many of them try to create editable poly when Vertex mode is selected.

Q10. When we rendering any animation and in between we pause the animation and minimize the max by pressing the show desktop button of windows. Then max not maximize, restore at all or close through status bar. Then how to start the animation or maximize it again?

Ans. Very Simple. Just Press Ctrl + Alt + Del and select the max application in the Application box and press Switch To. Max restores in a seconds or minutes according to the complexity of file (in terms of memory usage).
