Hi, my name is Florian Falcucci and I am CG Graphist in Paris since 1 year. For this character, the idea was to create a character in a cartoon style with a good charisma. A woman who does not let itself be. And I love the period of the aero postal, with Amelia Eckhart. The objective was creating an illustration with a single character, and discovering other methods for a best workflow. I suppose parts of my workflow are not very classical but it is my procedure.

References/Modeling

I'm not a designer, so I regroup a lot of references for creating the character. I know how the character is built and the style that I will give him but I begin the modeling with classical references for the proportions and transform this base to my final character. My procedure is to modeling the character under 3ds Max in a neutral pose for building to the next a fast setup for the posing.

I don't like the modeling directly in the pose in Max because it's difficult to step back and discover the errors. I prefer begin by the head because it's the most important part of a character, that's what we look first. The rest of body comes naturally.

Posing a base of color on the mesh allows giving an idea for the final character. The accessories are built in the end, for giving details and enrich the character.
