Making of Annie by Florian Falcucci, France Web: www.portfolio-falcucci.com

Lighting

The lighting is very simple: only 2 principals Vray lights: one front to the right and a rim light to the left to well get the light. I add other light on top for dense shadows, and same back to the character. I add too two spots for create the specular of the eyes, with an exclude. The shadows are in normal resolution, with no particular option.

Render / Compositing

I use Vray for the render, but it was very simple, and I just add more anti aliasing and activating the GI. The result was very convincing. I render some passes for the compositing: a pass of GI, occlusion, Lighting, Shadows, Specular and a cache for works the background. The beauty pass is the final pass but I like use it in compositing for add more details. The compositing is made on Photoshop, and I render too the background with shadow of the character. I can make a background separately of the character and have a good result.

After I add the passes of my character, I modify the contrast and saturation, the color correction and others parameters to achieve the final result. I add too passes that I have already used but it allows me to give more consistency for final image.

Conclusion - Well it is a good experience for this character. I'm sure I could do this character faster but with the pro work in same time it is not clear. But I will continue to do this personal project, I think it's important to have the possibility to create own projects, for his book or just his pleasure. I like to thanks to the team of Mayalounge.com for the support in creating this image. I would not have arrived at this result without them. Thanks a lot, guys!!
