Making of the Countess by Plamen Iliev, Bulgaria Web: www.piliev.com
The eye consisted of two spheres, one for the white and the iris and another for the cornea that gave reflectivity and refractivity. It’s a good idea to use sss materials for the white, but this time I used a standard material with some self-illumination.
The eyebrows are part of the facial texture and the eyelashes are created with hair and fur.
Her hair wasn’t meant to look realistic but stylized instead so I made some tentacle-like meshes and texturized them with varying shades of blue and transparency at the edges; I also used hair and fur for individual hairs.
After some intense light tweaking I was happy with the scene and rendered everything in a single pass along with an additional z-depth pass. I used Photoshop color correction and different colourizing layers and effects. Every once in a while I use the dodge and burn tools to accentuate or dull some parts of the image.
