Garden of Lights
by Bernardo Arroyo, Mexico

I used two images in the editing of the image:

a) There is a zdepth channel to fade the far background into black to bring more attention to the tree.

b) A dirt shader from Vray to get an ambient occlusion layer, this is a very useful trick to enhance the detail in the GI.

This layer in photoshop must be in the multiply blending mode to work, and I added a radial gradient around the tree to avoid having it darkened by the ambient occlusion.

Now, using the magic wand in Photoshop I selected the brighter colours in the image and copy/paste them in a new layer, then I blurred that layer and set the blending mode to screen, this way I got the glow around the tree and I had some more quality on the elements under it. To finish the image, I used a sharpen filter to have a lot more detail in the image and I adjusted some colours and levels.

All this steps to get the final image, I hope you liked it and this short tutorial is helpful, there are many techniques  I used that might need further explanation but the most important thing is to know that it can be done and start making some research on how to make it. Then start testing using some creativity all the time until you get exactly what you want.

Feel free to contact me trough the CGArena forum if you have any questions or comments, I will be happy to hear from you. =)
