Making of It's my Garden
by Leslie Pere, USA

The little curly side leaves were a lot of pain to texture, mainly because I was relatively new to texturing using the UnwrapUVW modifier. So this contest has made learn a lot.

As you can see, I used a gradient map for the stem and curly leaves. But the problem was that these curly leaves were rather messed up looking in the unwrap editor.

So after some amount of work I was able to untangle them to create a relatively nice rectangle, which were lined up perfectly for the gradient to cover them from top to bottom.

And this is the final render plant.

I’ve also made other plants using the same method outlined so far. Modeling them in XFrog and texturing in Max; painting the leaf textures in Photoshop.

Modeling Mushroom

I modeled the mushroom in Max. The base is started out as a cylinder and the top as a lathe object. You can see the lathe shape here as a curve outline.
