Making of the Prince

I still wasn't done yet, the image needed more detail. Since I've picked up a lot of painting techniques lately I thought I'd juice it up with some painted elements. This is how the moss and the wines on the rocks, the duckweed on the water, and the spiderweb on the grass was added.

By this time I had the final camera setup and that I would use a bit of shallow depth of filed that was typical of this kind of nature photography. I didn't want to increase the render time, and it is better to setup the DOF in realtime so the effect would be done composited. For this I setup a CameraDepth pass in MentalRay, so with the next render I got a nice Zdepth image that I could try out in Fusion immediately. Thanks to the lenscare plugin I got fast and realistic DOF. Just what I wanted!

Finishing Touches

Color correction. A very important step. Even if your image looks great to start with it's always worth to spend some time on trying out a few color correction ideas. Adobe Lightroom is the leading application in this field. It was initially developed for photographers do to lighting and color corrections on photos, but believe me it can do wonders for your rendered images too.

I was really satisfied with the final result. I wasn't exopecting to get this far, for the short time I had on this piece, and considering it started as a modeling exercise in ZBrush.
