Making of the Rider by Christopher Adajar, France

These are the textures that has been used for the character. As you can see all the pieces have their own uv’s layout and it was painted over using photoshop.

Particles

These are the images showing how the smoke effects were simulated.

The effect was basically created using sprites with few expressions attached to control the behavior and accurately adjust the particles flow. Using Maya’s supplied feature, one of those are sequence of smoke and that can be found in the tutorial and extras DVD. It is a pre-rendered sequence of smoke and it is very useful to simulate a convincing type of smoke or dust.

How to use it? - Create a lambert shader and flag the smoke sequence on the color then enable the “use image sequence” then set a key frame inside image number tab, then use a simple expression to randomized the appearance of the smoke sequence.

Other images of particle flow adding debris in the shot.

It is actually plain and simple. Create some stones then tweaked the shapes and apply a shader and instance them on my sprites particle.

Also using some expressions like custom instance to randomize the appearance of the stones and custom rotate to randomized the rotations can help to give full control.
