Making of Lighthouse by Victor M. Jimenez

faro

First of all I want to express my gratitude to all CGArena team for the opportunity given me to present my work on their website.

History

I'm inland, and I think that is why I feel a special fascination for the landscapes surrounding coastal areas and the sea in general.  Too bad I can not be near him, he misses the smell of salt to clear, the colors of the fishing villages, the light in the sun ...

Some time ago I saw some paintings in the background and the theme was the sea. I was fascinated by the sensations that many of them passed. This special atmosphere, the tranquility and peace. I decided to make an image and try to convey those feelings, too bold for my part, I'm more than making objects in which it is looking nice and look good, but not to create atmospheres and environments.

I choose an old lighthouse, an element that brings us to the coast and that somehow conveys loneliness.
This was one of the feelings I wanted to convey, but not enforced solitude, but solitude sought, rather, a meditation retreat in which, ultimately, peace. The lighthouse I found that met these characteristics. I was also thinking about a scene in which the main element was a fishing boat, but I found that the beacon transmitting over those feelings of which I speak.

The image is made with Maxon Cinema 4D, BodyPaint for textures and Advanced Render, rendering engine in Cinema 4D.

Modeling

I was looking for modeling reference images over the internet, and I finally decided on a lighthouse that is in the Pacific Ocean, North Head Lighthouse, I loved for its classic style is what I wanted.

The modeling is very simple, the entire image itself is very simple.

For the part of the sides of the house that is attached to the lighthouse used splines, which applied an extrusion to give the required thickness. Once done I make editable the extrusion in order to continue modeling. From this piece, based on cuts and more extrusions, I modeled the rest of the building.

The corridor connecting the lighthouse is a modified cylinder, like the tower.
With these basic geometry, and based on cuts and extrusions, was giving way and doing what looks like a window blind that are at the top of the lighthouse.

Joists that are under the platform of the lighthouse is an extruded spline, then double with a circular pattern to get the necessary amount and follow the contour of the tower. The rest, all that is top of the lighthouse, are cylinders modified to achieve the desired shape.

The terrain is an object "Fractal Land" of Cinema 4D, with minimal polygons needed.

The typical American viewpoints also carry the same procedure as the lighthouse as well, being so far did not require much detail.
I've always liked these viewpoints, it seems to have face, lol, nothing to do with what I know they are for a single eye.

terrain

As I said, all very simple.
