The neon lights and the signs above the fuel pumps have a material with Glow effect activated. The Glow is a post effect, and sometimes this produces something not so realistic. I simulated this effect by lighting the signs with a front light. Now it has a more believable look:
Dust and Smoke
The dust cloud and the smoke on the spaceship have been created whith the particle system of Cinema 4d: Thinking Particles and PyroCluster.
These have been rendered separately and then composed in Photoshop.
Rendering and Final Touches
The final render has been done in multipass, giving me the possibility to fine-tune every element of the scene in post production. As the dust and the smoke, also the Ambient Occlusion channel has been generated in a separate render, with materials and lights deactivated, to avoid huge render times.
