I needed some smoky effect for showing the action is happening in the character`s dream. I first add two planes between the sleeping carrot and the main scene and texture them with a smoky opacity texture which will give me the right effect for separating the real world from the dream.


Then I add a volume light with all the elements in matte shadow shader with a mental ray Omni including volume light in front /right of the character.




Render

For the render I used three light sources, one from behind, a spot, one omni and one photometric in front, with mental ray global illumination and final gather. Here it is my setup and scene top view for my lighting setup.




Final Entry

As I told you in the first step I include all the element progressively in one specific main scene, here it is the work of progress until the final result.
