It was time to throw in some colours and additional elements. Those reds worked really well with the general cool palette and I knew I need to bring it more up.
I decided to put some weaponry and carriage onto the beast, using it as a moving fortress. Adding more blue and red elements really improved the impact of the piece.
I decided to give it a bit of twist. In order to move the beast forward, the pheromones were vaporized and made the beast follow the smell. Carrot for the donkey, so to say. I added a few more details like armbands, birds, etc. It was very, very tempting to render on it more but I decided to leave it as it is.
I learned a valuable lesson from this painting. The time spent in thinking about the image is even more important than its execution. I knew after couple of minutes that this one is going to be strong. There are occasions where I spent days without having that confidence, just because it hasn’t been thought through. I also learned that you don’t need to render a lot to achieve strong impact. Sometimes, it’s good to just trust your instinct and let things go.
I hope this will inspire you to create some strong and enjoyable piece.
