Fast Modeling in 3d using Photoshop
by Ali reza Einollahi, Iran

In this tutorial we will learn how we can create curves in Photoshop and then take into any 3d application for modeling that object. For example I modeled below image with this technique and the reference image for creating this taking from Gnomon textures.

Step 1 - First of all, open your image in the photoshop and remove the background by selecting it. Because we just need the boundaries to make the curves from them.

Step 2 - For the selection of boundaries you have two options. First, Ctrl + Click on the image and inverse the selection. Create new empty layer and in the paths palette click on Make Work Path... Set the tolerance equal to 1 pixel.

Step 3 - Check out your empty layer, if you done right then you will see some curves on that layer. If you like then you can delete the another layer. There is no use of that.

Step 4 - Select File > Export > Path to Illustrator and choose Work path in the Paths option. If work path is not available then that means you have not created a paths properly.

Final Step - Finally, import the last saved file in your 3d application and curves will be shown in the 3d application and now you can extrude those curves. You can use this technique for creating diferent model same as Logo , leafs and ...
