The newspapers and the smoke were done as explain below:
Create your own front page with some text on it and some random lines as paragraphs, and stick it on a paper shaped selection adjusting its size to it; then, keeping both as separate layers, go to Filter/Liquify and by using the moving tool with the “show backdrop” option active, deform your front page to make it match your paper. With just a bit more of work on that, you’ll get a quite credible newspaper page.
For the smoke you just need to paint some random clouds with two soft brushes as shown in the picture below, and then smudge wisely the highlights with the rest of your color mass.
