Hello everyone, I am Udara Chinthaka from Sri Lanka. This is my latest Illustration – New Species. First off I want to thank CG Arena for giving me the opportunity to share the process of making “New Species” with you guys.
My initial idea was to create a funny looking Dentist who looks impressed of a large tooth he just pulled out, but as kept drawing it the idea changed into a “Scientist who just discovered a new species”.
I used Photoshop CS and Genius G-Pen 450 (4” x 5.5”) Tablet to create this. This illustration’s original resolution is 2657 x 3636px, 300dpi.
First I drew a rough pencil sketch on an A4 paper, scanned it and imported into Photoshop. I made it the base layer and started coloring on top of it. I colored most of it using a mouse and only used a tablet to put the details in.
The below example show a process shot of drawing the skin. I used the basic brush & played around with its hardness & opacity.
The same technique was applied for the rest of the painting. Nothing too special or fancy was used in making this just the basic brush tool.
