Hello everyone my name is Corrado Ficarelli, I live in Rome and I work in the field of computer graphics. CGArena has given me the opportunity to describe the production of one of my illustration: Mr Woland and the Esoteric cats. Hope you will find this project overview interesting.
The description sounds more or less like this:
1) First of all the idea, I wanted to create a bizarre character involved with magic and incredible world, the key colour would be the red color. First I take the pencil and tried to display the image which is in my mind. So I made a rapid pencil sketch on paper and then colored it in Photoshop .
I have painted the first layout to convince me about the goodness of the project and as a reference to start what eventually will become the final image.
2) At this point I started Adobe Photoshop CS3 and created an A4 / 300 dpi RGB document. I drew the characters and the background using a wacom intuos 4 graphic tablet and default brush taking care of the composition, my human anatomy knowledge allows me to draw the Mr Woland's body.
3) I created a new multiply layer, above the pencil layer and started coloring the characters with a default brush.
My intention was to keep the cats and Mr Woland against the light, to give them a more mysterious and disturbing face, to this end I have used the light bulbs as a back light to pull the figures from the bottom.
Now my fill light had a red tone, throughout the image that created the right environment and devilish look, the yellow color light bulbs as back lights, which allowed me to define the shape of the figures and I had a blue reflected light which could give volume to the characters.
