Making of The Revenge of Snowman
by Alex Cervantes, Mexico

I am going to try and explain the process of making the image for the Winter Challenge presented to us by CGArena.

Concept - The process was very simple and I will try to explain everything because I really don’t have much pictures of the process of making each thing. Well here’s the concept which was kept simple as I had already drawn the snowman and the general idea on the traditional paper.

Modeling the Snowman – This part doesn’t need any explanation because it’s very simple as you can see. It is just three basic spheres mounted on top of each other. The textures was created in Photoshop by using the cloud effect and adding little specs of blue and pure white to give more color on textures to it.

We exported the sphere into the Zbrush to make that bumpy and mushy look around the eyes. It was just sculpting until I liked it. The only thing is that I really didn’t want to use displacement maps so the main mesh when imported back in 3ds max then that was 400k polys and that’s a lot for just freakin’ head.

Teeth - This part of the snowman was just like the head. It was a trapezoid which I exported to Zbrush, sculpted it and then textured it. Then imported it back to 3ds max. Since they had the four sides (of course) I just flipped them around so they would only repeat once in total of the eight teeth. Well guess what? The nose was literally the same as the teeth, so no explanation needed, right?
