Making of The Revenge of Snowman
by Alex Cervantes, Mexico

Modeling the Floor – The floor was done by first using a displacement modifier to make the mounds. Second, I chamfered the edges which were going to be sculpted in Zbrush so I would know the placement and size of the snowman. Also by chamfering the edges whenever it is imported to Zbrush and the polygons are doubled. The quantities of polygons around the area that you are going to sculpt become more moldable and it looks less squared. After sculpting I made the texture by using a two layers of clouds and mixing them. After mixing them I just added little dots to make the deep parts of the snow. I really don’t know anything of snow it just seemed right.

These little dots are the atmosphere fog; these were made in Afterburn as little puffs. Then I used the motion blur to give it the movement and add in Photoshop with a soft light (blending change). The fog also added with zdepth

Modeling the Trees – The trees are just extensions of the branches. They are actually branches but with a big main cylinder for the base trunk. They are made with the same procedure as the branches and they also have the same textures. Just a bit stretched out. However since I know I am going to add a lot fog in a scene so I really didn’t mind much about the textures, because those are not much visible.

This is just a test placement and to see if everything was fitting properly. Everything seemed like it matched properly so I left it like it was. I liked the lighting textures and the idea, so at that moment I said what the heck let go on.
