Smoke in the Eye by David Munoz Velazquez, Spain Web: www.munozvelazquez.com

METAL SPEC pass, this one is for a bit of reflection in the areas I am looking because the render pass was too strong and homogeneous and I had to mask the areas that required less intensity. Screen mode.

REFLECTION pass, again masked in this case for the metallic parts, also some levels adjustments keeping the original color. Screen mode.

Some painting corrections, especially to blend with the background.

painting corrections

Contrast for the full image and added light in the cigarette.

Now the final retouches, I used to wait a day or something like that before I fully finish the image, so I can see it with fresh eyes, then I will do the final steps. Now I have blurred the background a bit, painted some small bits. The full image is a bit rotated and a bit of color correction to add more visible cold tones.

The whole process is very enjoyable if you have all the required render passes then you can change anything very easily because you can retouch all the passes without breaking the rest of the blending that was already done. Also, this is cool for illustration to do some overpaint to get rid of the 3D looking and make it more expressive if you will, result always looks more interesting to me.

Regards and I hope this is useful for you.
