I wanted to realize a complex digital sculpture with believable anatomy for both the male and female human figures with a clean topology.
In below image you can see the concept art (very rough and inaccurate) I drew for that purpose. The subjects shown in the drawing pose in a bit different since I changed my mind many times during the project. I’ve been also using some artistic nude photos for anatomical reference.
For both the figures I started from two previously modelled meshes I did some months ago using the ZSpheres technique.
Since I planned to include a complete retopology of the two figures I was able to sculpt in freedom during this phase, without worrying about preserving existing edge flow.
As a starting point I divided the meshes soon to a high level and started blocking out the muscular masses, mainly with four brushes: Formsoft (to give volume and an overall shape), Pinch (a little sunken in the brush option, to draw the boundaries of the various muscles in the depressions), Smooth Stronger (in combination with Formsoft and Pinch it acts like an eraser for a pencil) and H-Polish (to refine the shape).
