|Job Description:||Woodbury University’s School of Media, Culture & Design (MCD) invites applications for an Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication beginning Fall 2013. The department offers a BA in Communication. Faculty rank and salary are commensurate with teaching experience, professional background, and degrees held. |
Responsibilities: The candidate must be knowledgeable, sociable, articulate, passionate, and an effective teacher with highly developed communication and organizational skills. A strong commitment to school and university service is desirable. The candidate is expected to collaborate with other members of the School of MCD to facilitate cross-disciplinary learning experiences with students in fields such as film, game art and design, media technology, animation, graphic design, psychology and fashion design.
Media Studies Emphasis: The successful candidate will (1) demonstrate the ability to teach and develop undergraduate courses related to media studies as well as a variety of generalist topics; (2) exhibit the ability to teach and assess classes that include Media Culture, Communication Theory, Media History, Film Studies, Research Methods, Cultural Studies and Senior Seminar; (3) develop and teach upper-level undergraduate courses in the candidate’s area of expertise; (4) articulate a scholarly agenda that complements the department’s needs; (5) place students into meaningful internships; and (6) have potential to meet departmental, school, and university requirements for long-term employment and promotion.
|Job Requirements:||Qualifications: An earned PhD in Communication or related field from an accredited institution by the time of appointment (ABD will be considered), as well as teaching experience. Ideal candidates will be attuned to the latest trends shaping media. Familiarity with study abroad opportunities is a plus as is knowledge of the assessment of student learning. We welcome applicants with a strong history of placing students into internships and entry-level jobs.|
